About DSWO
- The Department of Women and Child Development in Odisha was formed in the Year of 1994 as the Nodal Department for implementing schemes related to the holistic growth and Development of vulnerable sections of the population. The Department has an extensive field structure with the district Social Welfare Officer (DSWO). Programme implementation at Block level facilitated by Child. Development Project Officers (CDPO), Supervisors, who look after 20-25 Anganwadi Centres (AWC) which are in one sector and each Project was divided in to 5-6 nos. of Sectors. Each AWC covered a population of 800 in the non-tribal areas and 300 in the tribal areas and run by an Anganwadi worker (AWW) assisted by an Anganwadi Helper (AWH). Apart from this left out areas are provided by Mini Anganwadi Centre covering a population of 150-400 in tribal areas and 150-300 in rural areas. The activities of the Department are supported by financial outlays in the Non Plan and Plan Budget of the State Government supplemented by the grants-in-aid received from the Central Government through the Ministry of Women and Child Development; Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Rural Development under a number of Central Sector Schemes.
